DOW Chemical Company Information Session for MSE Students

The Dow Chemical Company will host an information session on Monday, August 14, 2017 in the Lynch seminar room (Chemistry building); details below. This event is open to all PhD Students and postdocs. This year the information session will focus on Dow's Microbial Control business.

Dow will then follow up with on-campus interviews August 28-29th of CBE, MSE and BE graduate (PhD) students who will be defending in 2018 or later, as well as postdocs with less than 2 years of experience. If you meet these criteria and want to be considered for an interview, send your CV and a one-page research summary to Craig Ryan ( by Tuesday, August 1, 2017.

2017 CTL Graduate Fellow Recipient
Congratulations to Kathryn Hasz who was awarded a CTL Graduate Fellowship for Teaching Excellence for the 2017-2018 academic year! CTL Graduate Fellows are nominated for their teaching excellence by their departments and then selected by CTL from nominees from across the university.

2017 Belton Award Recipient
The Geoffrey Belton Graduate Fellowship Award is given to an MSE PhD student in their3rd year of studywho has madesuperior and significantcontributions to their field of PhD study.

This award is named in honor of a former member of the MSE faculty, Dr. Geoffrey Belton, and was endowed by his estate. Dr. Belton made many seminal contributions to the thermodynamics and kinetics of materials and throughout his career demonstrated a strong and sincere commitment to mentoring young scientists and engineers in the field of Materials Science & Engineering.

MSE Graduate Students Present at ExxonMobil Poster Session
Scientists from ExxonMobil visited Penn on March 21, 2017 for a Graduate Student Poster session. MSE students Eric Bailey and Ted Trigg in the lab of Karen Winey presented posters on "Chain-Scale Polymer Dynamics Through Homogeneously Confining Nanoparticles" and "New multilayered structures in precise polyolefins and their ion transport properties."
